Dr. Ron Friedman owns and operates Friedman Veterinary Service and The Oregon Equine Reproduction Center. Friedman Veterinary Service is mobile equine practice based in the Portland Oregon region. The Oregon Equine Reproduction Center provides comprehensive breeding management and services at the Ernst Ranch in Eagle Creek Oregon.
Ron's practice experience and interest are diverse: reproduction, dentistry, medicine, lameness, & acupuncture. He has attended to a wide assortment of equine patients, from the backyard pet and training athlete, to broodmares and stallions in the US and Australia, to the Royal Lipizzaner Stallions, stunt horses at Universal Studios Florida, and being trackside as a trauma-team veterinarian during the 1994 Kentucky Derby.
Dr. Friedman has practiced in a wide range of settings: private solo mobile practice, advanced reproduction lab facilities, referral medical surgical equine hospitals, and referral reproductive specialty hospitals in private practice and university settings. He has worked on racetracks (flat racers, trotters), training barns, and breeding farms on horses as dissimilar as miniature horses and draft breeds. His work with horses has led him overseas to South America, Israel, Australia, and Korea.
Ron’s practice philosophy led to a mix of current modern technology (digital x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopes, power dentistry, and advanced reproductive technologies) along with alternative therapies such as acupuncture, and chiropractic.
Ron received his BS (1979), Master of Science (MS) in Reproductive Physiology (1982), and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) (1984) all from Oregon State University. He completed a residency program in Equine Reproduction at the University of California, Davis (1987), and received Diplomate status in the American College of Theriogenologists (DACT) (1992). He has completed several hundred hours of classroom and hands on instruction in acupuncture with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, followed by extensive training at the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association.
Ron enjoys writing and contributes regularly to horsemen’s magazines. He has presented his research results on stallion fertility at international veterinary meetings and published several papers in professional journals. Dr. Friedman has taught equine reproduction classes to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students at the Oregon State University, School of Veterinary Medicine and to veterinary students overseas. He enjoys giving seminars locally and has covered topics ranging from stallion management to dentistry for local horse clubs.
Dr. Friedman focuses his practice on achieving the following mission:
Caring, Service, Education. |
