1. No hay, grain, or grass for 24 hours after all signs of discomfort are gone.
  2. Clean fresh water should be available at all times. Horses prefer luke warm or tepid water more than cold. Automatic waterers should be turned off and
replaced with clean buckets of water so that water consumption can be measured.
  3. If withholding food makes the horse extremely agitated (when other horses are being fed), feed a few handfuls of hay to keep him/her busy.
  4. On the first feeding feed the horse 1/2 its regular hay ration and a hot bran mash, one useful recipe follows:
    - 3 to 4 quarts of boiling water
    - bran (enough to make a thick gruel)
    - 1/2 cup Epsom salt
    - cool to luke warm
    - 1/2 cup metamucil to feed for 4-5 days (optional)
  5. At the second feeding feed the horse normally.
  6. If you have any questions, please call.
